A 23-year-old with previous assault convictions is in the Mower County jail and may face more charges for violence.
Police arrested the Austin man after 10 p.m. Sunday when the alleged victim reported an attack. According to the Austin Police Department’s report, the suspect appeared at the 18-year-old victim’s Austin home and was banging on the front door. The two argued, and the suspect reportedly threw a child’s large, plastic car and a stroller, which struck the woman.
The suspect then allegedly followed the woman into the house, where she said the man broke the front door’s window with a bicycle, broke another window and then grabbed her throat. Officers said the suspect ran when they arrived; however, they were able to arrest him after warning him with a Taser.
According to police records, the suspect was previously charged with assault in Mower County this summer, and he has two previous convictions in Missouri, one from this year for second-degree assault with a weapon.
