Anfinson returns to ArtWorks

This is the continuation of a series of articles profiling some of the artists participating in this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival. The series will continue until the festival itself.
Last year’s headline artist and Austin native Eric Anfinson will once again be displaying his work at the Austin ArtWorks Festival on Aug. 24-25 at the historic downtown power plant.
In addition to showing his art, he will also be participating in the Festival as an author. He will discuss his art book “Along the Edges of Beauty” on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. The book includes over a 100 of Anfinson’s paintings displayed simply, without text, allowing the work to speak for itself.
The art is framed by an introduction from Matt Dukes Jordan and a final interview with Sara Shea. Jordan’s intro describes the relationship of Anfinson’s paintings to his life and philosophy.
It also discusses Eric’s artistic progression over the ten years of art displayed in the book.
Shea’s interview answers questions many have about Anfinson’s life and opinions.
Anfinson’s work was seen for the first time by many at last year’s ArtWorks Festival and received rave reviews. In fact, his piece “The Golden Fish” was last year’s Purchase Award and will be proudly displayed at the I.J. Holton Intermediate School when it opens this fall.
A mural of the work done by inmates at the Mower County Justice Center can be seen at the Oak Park Mall. For the most up to date information on all the artists participating in this year’s Festival, please visit austinartworksfestival.org.
