Artists on display at the ArtWorks Fest

Published 5:11 pm Saturday, July 13, 2013

This is the continuation of a series of articles profiling some of the artists participating in this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival. The series will continue until the festival itself.

A highlight of this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival is the artists who will be demonstrating their work.

Some of these artists will also have opportunities for festival attendees to participate in their own artistic creation. Peter Waldman, a favorite from last year’s Festival, will again be blowing glass.

A Brooklyn resident, Waldman is already in Austin working on building a furnace to use at this year’s event. He is also working with Andrew Kepper, an attorney at Hormel Foods Corporation and hobby glass blower, to create some pieces that will be available for sale at the Festival.

Kepper will be assisting Waldman with the glass blowing during the festival as well.

Two other artists will also return, offering demonstrations and opportunities for attendees to participate.

Muralist Jimmy Longoria will be at the Festival guiding children in painting a mural, and mosaic artist Patrick Cabello Hansel from the Semilla project will teach children how to mosaic. In fact, he is partnering with the Welcome Center to offer free mosaics class on Aug. 12, 13, 19 and 20 leading up to the Festival. More information about these classes will soon be available.

Kyra Bellrichard is a new addition to this year’s Festival. An Austin native, she is a potter who now lives in Decorah, Iowa. She will be demonstrate pottery throughout the festival and will have opportunities for Festival attendees to try throwing their own pots.
