Car strikes boy in area parking lot

ALBERT LEA — A 10-year-old North Carolina boy was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester Sunday afternoon after he was reportedly struck by a car in the parking lot of the Minnesota Welcome Center off of Interstate 35.
Ashton B. Philyaw received injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The State Patrol report indicates the boy was struck by a 2011 Ford Festiva, driven by John C. Sassaman, 59, of Center City, Minn. Sassaman and his passenger, Karen Currie-Sassaman, 60, were not injured.
The crash took place at 1:30 p.m.
The State Patrol was assisted by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
