A detour route for the Highway 16 resurfacing project between Spring Valley and Preston has been changed, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Drivers will now be detoured using Highway 63, Fillmore County Road 12 and Fillmore County Road 5.

The new detour is necessary as crews begin resurfacing the west end of Highway 16, and will remain in place through the end of July.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
