Interstate 90 construction could extend 2 more weeks

Construction on Interstate 90 in the Austin area could extend two weeks past its projected completion date.
The project, which began in late April and was slated for completion in mid-July, may now extend to July 31. Though representatives with the Minnesota Department of Transportation one month ago said the project was still on schedule, construction crews discovered some of the ramps and the 19-mile roadway stretch from Highway 105 to Mower County Road 19 had deteriorated beyond what they expected.
Furthermore, excessive rain this spring and summer had also been a burden. While the project was bid for 80 working days with built-in rain days, MnDOT has allowed construction to continue through July 31. Still, MnDOT officials say crews could finish before that date. The construction area remains limited to one traffic lane.
