First United Methodist Church will mix a little entertainment into their service when Jonathan Richard Cring and Janet Clazzy bring humor and music at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14th.
Clazzy and Cring have toured the country for 17 years, presenting music and the inspirational message that “no one is better than anyone else.”
“In the last few years, we’ve been touring nonstop,” Clazzy said. “The only break we took was for Christmas vacation.”
A church is the ideal setting for their performance, according to Clazzy.
“The church is a place where people have become ready to stop being mean,” she said.
Clazzy plans to bring a special instrument to the performance called a wind controller. It looks similar to a saxophone, and produces more than 250 different sounds. It has wind and lip sensors and various finger modes, allowing for a large range of sounds to be produced.
“I first saw it on a Barbara Streisand show,” Clazzy said. “It was so amazing.”
She will play her wind controller, accompanied by Cring and his electric keyboard.
“The variety of sounds that comes from just two people is amazing,” Clazzy said.
Along with the music, the duo plans to humor the church. According to Clazzy, Cring can be pretty funny.
“His funny and inspiring message gets everybody.” she said.
Clazzy said she and Cring work well together, which makes for a good show.
“I do a lot of the music, and the ideas behind the show are Jonathan’s,” she said.
SpiriTed will perform for the church twice — once in the morning and once in the night.
“We do a different show that will last an hour,” she said. “We won’t repeat anything.”
The church will not charge people to watch the show, but a free will donation is suggested. the duo’s DVDs and CDs will be sold, as well as books Cring has written. For more information, call the church at 507-433-8839, or visit SpiriTed’s website: spirited2013.com.
