A 23-year-old — convicted of misdemeanors in five different criminal cases since this May — is guilty of felony assault.
Washington Zinnah, of Austin, pleaded guilty Thursday in Mower County Court for felony fifth-degree assault. A felony charge for domestic assault was dismissed.
The victim said Zinnah threw a large, plastic car at her and a stroller and attempted to strangle her on July 28. Police arrested Zinnah after 10 p.m. Sunday when the alleged victim reported the attack. According to the court complaint, Zinnah appeared at the victim’s Austin home and was banging on the front door. The two argued, and Zinnah reportedly threw a child’s large, plastic car, which struck the woman in the leg. He also threw a stroller, which missed the woman, the complaint added.
Zinnah allegedly followed the woman into the house, busted two windows with a bicycle and tried to grab the victim by the throat. Officers said the suspect ran when they arrived; however, they were able to arrest him at Taser-point.
According to the court complaint, the suspect was convicted of domestic assault in Missouri in 2011. And since May, in Mower County, he has been convicted twice for giving a peace officer a false name, fifth-degree assault, disorderly conduct and driving after suspension.
Zinnah will be sentenced on Nov. 21.
