Family art on display

This is the continuation of a series of articles profiling some of the artists participating in this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival. The series will continue until the festival itself.
The Austin ArtWorks Festival at the historic downtown power plant will feature three tremendous artists who are based in Decorah, Iowa and have ties to Austin.
Jewelry and furniture designer John Steven Kjome will be displaying his work along side his son Jordan, a photographer. Ellen Rockne is a mixed media artist who will also be showcasing her artwork.
John owns Clearfork Stoneworks. All of his pieces are hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind creations made from clay, stone, glass, metal, and reclaimed wood.
As John explains, these found materials have had a former life and now come together to create a unique story.
Jordan describes himself as a self taught light-painting photographer.
His light-painted photographs are unedited, coming straight from the camera.
He uses physical handmade light tools to create all effects and to illuminate subjects in the dark of night. Ellen was born and raised in Austin.
She owns StoryPeople, which is based in Decorah, but the work is shared in partner galleries all over the world. The art is described as anything that can be made with old wood and covered with bright paint and stories.
Through their art and stories, StoryPeople’s wish is for people to experience the world as one filled with imagination, possibility and healing. See John, Jordan, Ellen and all the other artists participating in this year’s Austin ArtWorks Festival.
