Janice ‘Jan’ Boeke, 76

Janice J. Boeke, 76, of Waseca, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca with the Rev. John Omans officiating. Private family interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca.

Janice Jodell, the daughter of Leonard and Bertha (Thomson) Holderness, was born on Sept. 2, 1936, in Lansing Township, Mower County, Minn. She attended Austin High School and graduated with the class of 1955. Following high school, Jan continued her education at Faribault Vo-Tech, where she earned her LPN license. Jan was united in marriage to James Schoenecke in 1955 and had three children. They later divorced.

Jan later married Donald Boeke in 1971. They lived in Owatonna where she worked at Rainbow Residence as a nurse for 25 years. After Donald later passed away, Jan moved to Waseca, where she enjoyed attending church at St. John, quilting and going out with friends. She especially enjoyed the help and company of her special friend, Mary. Jan will be remembered for her witty attitude and outgoing personality.

Jan is survived by her children, Sandra (Dave) Stewart, Diane (Lee) Holthus, both of Waseca, and Kerry (Vivianne) Schoenecke; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her mother, Bertha Holderness of Austin; two sisters, Darlene (Dennis) Kolb of Austin and Linda Olson of Stacy, Minn., and by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Holderness; brother, Gene Holderness, and husband, Donald Boeke.
