LeRoy man starts tree trimming service

After 10 years of experience trimming trees, Kyle Stern decided to go out on a limb and start his own venture.
The LeRoy native opened Stern Family Tree Service in May, and plenty of unneeded branches have been falling ever since. Stern previously worked for a couple tree services and decided it was time to start his own business. He didn’t cut any corners, just branches.
“I’m set up to do everything with trees, other than move them, basically,” Stern said.
Stern said on Wednesday he’ll travel nearly 60 miles for calls. If he doesn’t answer the phone, he’s likely up in the bucket, removing limbs. On Wednesday, Stern was in Rochester doing estimates. Then it was back to LeRoy for two jobs. He has plenty of equipment to get most jobs done, he said.
“I’ve got a 70-foot boom, skid loader, stump grinder, dump truck and dump trailer,” he said.
After roughly a decade, Stern still enjoys his work. He has his family on his side, and his wife, Crystal, and brother, Kalvin, who help with the business. The perks of working outside and tackling new challenges are nice, too.
“I just really enjoy being outside,” Stern said. “I like the spontaneity of the job. It’s always different. It’s never the same thing every day.”
Stern can be reached at 507-251-5672. The business is also on Facebook.
