One of two people who tried to steal more than $1,000 in merchandise from Target in January was sentenced Thursday in Mower County Court.
Yoanna Hernandez-Vera, 21, of Austin, was convicted of felony theft and placed on five years’ supervised probation and 80 hours’ community service.
According to the court complaint, the employee called police, and officers arrived and blocked the vehicle in which the two suspects were loading retail items at about 6:30 p.m. The employee showed police video surveillance and tallied the stolen items at $1,070.
Both suspects admitted to stealing from the store, according to the court complaint, and Hernandez-Vera admitted to stealing from Target on Dec. 1 and 16, too.
Andres Vazquez-Garcia, 26, of Austin, the other suspect involved, was also convicted of felony theft in March and sentenced to five years’ supervised probation and ordered to pay $238 in restitution.
