Volunteers needed for bowling tourney

Volunteers are needed at the Area 10 Bowling Tournament at Echo Lanes in Austin on Oct. 12. Opportunities include lane monitors, team registration, awards and meal servers. All volunteers will receive training the day of the event and a t-shirt.

Mower County Special Olympics bowling registration open
Get ready for some strikes, good friends and fun memories, because it is time once again for bowling.
Special Olympic bowlers must have current Special Olympics forms on file at The Arc Mower County. These forms must be updated every three years and require a physician’s signature. Athletes will not be allowed to participate in the practices or competitions without updated forms.
Bowling will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 11 through March 19, 2014, at Echo Lanes in Austin.
The season cost is $20 for members or $24 for non-members. Scholarships are available. Tournaments will be held in October (Austin) and November (Lakeville).

•Monday: Special Olympics softball practice, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
•Tuesday: People First Aktion Club, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
•Wednesday: Community Connections: Steele County Fair , 5 to 9 p.m.
•Thursday: Movie Night, 6 to 8 p.m.
•Friday: Open center, 6 to 8 p.m.
•Saturday-Sunday: Special Olympics Minnesota State Softball Tournament
•Sept. 15: Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mower County Senior Center. Advance tickets $7 for adults or $5 for children (6-12). Children 5 and under are free. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults or $6 for children (6-12). Children 5 and under are still free. Call 507-433-8994 to purchase tickets. Volunteer shifts are also available from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
