An Iowa man charged in Mower County Court for twice strangling his girlfriend, punching her and breaking her nose, was sentenced to five years’ supervised probation on Friday
James David Broszeit, 32, of Postville, Iowa, received the sentence for third-degree assault with substantial bodily harm, a felony. However, the actual conviction was stayed.
According to the court complaint, Broszeit and the woman were arguing about “drinking and parenting issues” while at Deer Creek Speedway near Racine on Sept. 22.
Broszeit strangled the victim twice in her car, the woman said, and then punched her in the face. The complaint stated the two drove home together; however, the victim asked to go to the hospital. Broszeit reportedly dropped the victim off at the hospital but did not stay with her.
A local deputy learned about the case after a Winneshiek County deputy forwarded the information.
