A ‘spooktacular’ good time is celebrating 30th birthday

If you have never checked out the Halloween Warm Up at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center, here is your chance.

Friday and Saturday will mark the 30th year for this event. You can purchase tickets at the Super Fresh Produce, Bakery & Garden Center.

This event is a partnership with the Matchbox Children’s Theatre, which will present the “spooktacular” event in the Enchanted Nature Center Forest.

Groups of 25 are led through the forest every 10 minutes with first hike starting at 6:50 p.m. and the last one at 9:10 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.

Austin Youth Hockey will have another registration night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Riverside Arena lobby.

The Brady family has started a memorial scholarship fund in the name of Tyler Brady. They have formed a scholarship committee and along with the Austin Youth Hockey Association are excited to announce there is funding available for several scholarships this year. Check it out on the Austin Youth Hockey website at www.austin.pucksystems2.com.

Your next public skate opportunity will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Arena.

The cost to skate is $4, and $1 to rent skates.  Ask us about family or individual memberships. They can be purchased at our office or at the arena during open skates.

We are starting our sign-up for the youth volleyball that will begin on Saturday mornings starting Oct. 26 for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade girls.

They will meet on Saturday mornings through Dec. 14 with no class on Nov. 30. The cost is $20. Call our office for more information.

Austin Youth Basketball is currently taking registration with a deadline of Oct. 27.

You can find a printable form on its website, www.austinyouth basketball.org. You can mail or drop the registration and money off at our Parks and Recreation office, Games People Play or South Central Athlete.

Visit the Youth Activity Center located in the east rooms of Riverside arena. Enter from the northeast doors located on the parking lot side of the building.

The YAC hours are 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 9 p.m. Fridays, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. The YAC is open to students in grades 5 to 12 in Mower County.
