The Tigers (3-1 overall, 1-0 Big Nine) took the lead for good when Becca Dup scored on a crossing pass from Anna Anderson in the 45th minute to make it 2-1. AL added another goal to put the game away with 11:08 left.

“Albert Lea is always a good team,” Austin head coach Enrique Camarena-Corzo said. “They played good tonight. Unfortunately we made a few mistakes and next time we need to be more alert.”

The Packers (1-2 overall, 0-1 Big Nine) mustered just three shots on goal as the AL defense put the clamps down. Austin got on the board with 2:40 left in the second half when eighth grader Sydney Marsh chipped in a corner kick from Hannah Voogd to make it 1-1.

“She’s young and that gives her confidence,” Camarena-Corzo said of Marsh. “At the same time it tells you that anyone who works hard in practice can play varsity. The best players have to play.”

Austin keeper Chloe Summerfield had 10 saves in the loss as she made a diving stop and a leaping save.
