Police arrested a 67-year-old Austin man on Friday after warning him earlier this year to cease contact with a high school girl.
Police reports state officers had warned the suspect this spring after he sent strange letters to the 16-year-old student. Officers learned about the letters when the student told a school resource officer. However, the student said on Friday she received a new bicycle, softball glove and bat from the man, according to the police report.
Officers found the suspect at his mother’s home, where he allegedly told officers he bought the girl the softball equipment because he thought she would be good at the sport, and he bought the bike so she could travel to and from practice.
Officers arrested the man and placed him in the Mower County jail where he awaits formal charges, which could include felony stalking.
