More than 30 vehicles struck by vandals

Vehicle owners flooded the Austin Police Department with calls Saturday night with reports of slashed tires, smashed hoods and broken windows. All told, at least 30 vehicles were vandalized, and a few more reports may trickle in.

According to the stack of police reports, vandals struck in the northeast part of Austin, from Reed’s Fourth Avenue to the 10th Street area before 11 p.m. Saturday, where 11 vehicles had either one or multiple slashed tires. Reports of four vehicles with slashed tires in the 200 block of 11th Ave. NW came in after midnight, along with reports of a car with a broken mirror and a van with a broken window.

The vandalism continued all over southwest Austin, where there were four more reports of tire slashings and at least nine reports of landscaping bricks and pavers either tossed onto cars or through windows.

There are no suspects at this time, and police seek any information available about the string of vandalism. One reportee stated seeing a small, four-door sedan with three to four teenage males in an area where suspects had struck; however, police have no more information at this time.
