New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva schools are on lockdown, according to a school representative.

The school received a call from the New Richland Police Department between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m., notifying them that there was a felon in the cornfield one mile south of the city.

Students in the high school are on a “hard lockdown,” while the elementary school in Ellendale is under a “soft lockdown.”

Under both lockdowns, the doors to the buildings are locked, but under the hard lockdowns, the students are confined to their classrooms.

Parents have been notified.
