Robert C. ‘Hoot’ Gibson, 87

Robert C. “Hoot” Gibson, 87, of Austin, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Presbyterian Homes Johanna Shores in Arden Hills.

Hoot was born July 21, 1926, in Randolph, Neb., to Samuel and Ruth (Bartels) Gibson. He attended Randolph High School, Randolph. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1950, he graduated from the University of Nebraska. On March 16, 1952, he married Jane Williams in St. Paul, Minn. They moved five times throughout his time with Hormel, living in Mitchell, S.D., where he was Plant Manager for 22 years until 1979, when they moved back to Austin where he served as Corporate Manager of Hog Procurement until he retired in 1988. Hoot worked for Hormel for 38 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, of 62 years, three children: Barb, Shoreview, Minn.,; Sam (Jamie), Boise, ID; and Robb, Boise, ID; eight grandchildren, and brother Bill, Monte Vista, Colo.

His No. 1 priority in life was his family. He was a role model to his children and devoted to his wife to the end.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend Susan Rector Li officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday for one hour before the service.

At Hoot’s request, no neckties are to be worn at the service.
