Traffic stop uncovers counterfeit bills

Austin Police found counterfeit $20 bills and marijuana Monday afternoon after a stopping a driver for swerving.

Police stopped the vehicle at the 100 block of First Ave. SE just after 11:30 p.m. and noticed an odor of burnt marijuana, according to the police report. The report added the driver, from Chicago, had a baggy of marijuana in her pocket and was allegedly driving without a license and insurance. She was arrested and cited. According to the report, she denied the marijuana was hers.

The passenger, a Worthington man, was arrested for possession of counterfeit currency after police searched the vehicle and reportedly found three counterfeit $20 bills amongst a large amount of cash. According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, detectives have recently been working to resolve local issues with counterfeit currency.
