Three people facing felony charges after two separate drug busts uncovered 20 grams of methamphetamine on Sept. 30 say they are not guilty.
Joshua Faas, 27, of St. Ansgar, and Jon Faas, 25, of Austin, both pleaded not guilty last week in Mower County Court to felony second-degree drug possession for more than 6 grams of meth. Jon also pleaded not guilty to fifth-degree drug possession, a felony.
Police arrested the men near Eighth Street and First Avenue NW after 1 a.m. According to the court complaint, the men were in a car parked the wrong way and appeared to duck and make furtive movements as an officer approached. The report added Jon exited the vehicle but was ordered back inside. Joshua then tried to exit and was also ordered back inside at gunpoint. After searching the vehicle, police allegedly found 8.85 grams of meth in a briefcase and 0.6 grams of meth in Jon’s hat.
According to the court complaint, Joshua was convicted of a third-degree drug crime in October 2006 and a fifth-degree drug crime this May.
After 3 a.m. that same day, police arrested Cory Lee Cassidy, 29, of Hayfield, after they received a suspicious report. Cassidy pleaded not guilty last week to felonies for second-degree drug possession of more than 6 grams of meth and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the court complaint, police stopped a vehicle as a driver tried to pull away and then spoke to the suspects. After searching the men and the vehicle, police allegedly found a digital scale, a 4.5 mm BB gun, 10.45 grams of meth and a baggie with 0.16 grams of meth, a spoon and mirror with residue and a syringe. Police said the other suspect was cited for drug paraphernalia and released.
