Quiznos Subs in Austin and its customers topped the world in a recent leukemia fundraiser.
The Austin Quiznos placed first among all Quiznos in the U.S. by raising $1,160 during the six-week campaign.
The drive ended on Nov. 10, and Austin store owner Marlene Blaser inquired about the status and found out just how generous her store and customers were. Customers picked up the slack in the last two weeks by giving $530. All of the $1 and $5 donations from the nationwide Quiznos leukemia campaign will support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Nationwide, Quiznos raised $94,000 for LLS. Other top-earning cities were Lafayette, Colo., Germantown, Wis., McMinnville, Ore., and Independence, Mo.
Blaser knows the effects of cancer firsthand. The disease has touched many of her family members, which is why this effort hit so close to home.
“We are thrilled to have raised the largest donation for LLS,” Blaser said in a press release. “My family has a personal connection to cancer, so through these types of fundraising events we are able help others who have been hurt by this disease. I am very proud of the Austin community, whose donations will go to good use funding cancer research and improving the lives of people suffering in our community and nationwide.”
The Austin Quiznos has contributed to other causes, including Relay for Life and Paint the Town Pink.
LLS is the world’s largest, voluntary health agency dedicated to finding cures for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
