He has struggled with numerous surgeries, pneumonia and failing kidneys, and now family and friends will hold a benefit for Bill Hallman. Hallman was diagnosed with diverticulitis in May, a common digestive disease within the bowel wall. However, his medications stopped working, and doctors later found a leak inside his body, which led to a long stay in ICU and increased medical bills.

A pool tournament, silent auction, raffles and drawings will help raise funds for Hallman this Saturday at the Austin VFW, 300 Fourth Ave. NE. Sign-up for the pool tournament begins at 11 a.m., with play beginning at noon.

There will also be a DJ, food and plenty of entertainment throughout the night. Those who can’t attend but still want to donate can contact any local Wells Fargo branch and donate under the Hallman Family Benefit Fund.
