Gray: From family to businesses, Thanksgiving starts busy time of year

The Thanksgiving holiday is always a fun time for family. Families get together and travel many miles to enjoy the holiday together. As for me, we all live in town and within a few blocks of each other, so this isn’t as big and festive as other family gatherings may be. We will still enjoy a dinner and company on Thanksgiving Day.
Austin always has a lot of fun things going on throughout Thanksgiving weekend for people to enjoy.
Wednesday night is one of the biggest nights for businesses. Many places will be busy serving drinks and food. Some will have entertainment. Their will be a lot of local money being spent from those that got a profit sharing check.
My girls are trying to convince me to go out shopping on Thanksgiving night with all those other dedicated shoppers. My thought is I don’t need anything that bad to wait forever in line and have to fight over items. I like to think that if there is something that I want and it is still available when I get there, then it was meant for me to buy. I always try to shop locally when possible, so I am sure we may venture out for the evening.
Friday night, we will probably go to downtown Austin and partake in Christmas in the City events. The Chamber and the downtown merchants always do a great job at promoting this event and have great things for the children to do. Its always fun to walk around and see the children dressed up and to listen to the entertainment that they have going on.
Then comes the weekend. There will be entertainment at local establishments and lots of shopping all weekend long.
While this is a very busy holiday weekend, I plan to take it easy and relax, and enjoy the time with my family. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.
