Albert H. Fleiner, 88, of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Al was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Waunakee, Wis., to William and Anna Fleiner. He grew up in Waunakee where he graduated from high school. Al entered the United States Army in 1943, and served in the Philippines during World War II.

On Jan. 5, 1952, he married Janice Gee in Waunakee. They have resided in Austin since 1952, where they raised four children.

Al was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church, the Elks Club, the American Legion and the Austin Country Club. He enjoyed baseball, golf, cross country skiing, fishing and hunting.

Al began his career at Hormel in 1952, and he retired in 1985. He held numerous positions including Director of Cured and Smoked Meats and the title of Cure Master of Cure 81 hams.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Fleiner, of Austin; daughter, Susan LoCantro (Jerry), of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Peggy Fleiner, of Florence, S.C.; daughter, Amy Cutter (Bill), of Eagan, Minn.; son, Bill Fleiner (Wendy), of Austin, Minn.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Fleiner (Maryanne), of Waunakee, Wis.; brother, Bill Fleiner (Judy), of Waunakee, Wis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Fleiner; brother, Romain; sisters, Marion and Alma.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.  Military rites will be by American Legion Post 91.

Memorials are preferred to St. Edward’s Catholic Church and the American Cancer Society.
