Fern R. Olson, 98, of Austin, Minn., died on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Fern was born on July 21, 1915, in Blue Earth, Minn., to George and Grace (Klaus) Wilmert. On June 14, 1936, she married Vernon Olson in St. Paul. Fern worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance and Austin Sanitation. After retiring, Fern and Vern spent the winters in Florida. Fern later worked at Target in the jewelry department. In her spare time, Fern enjoyed sewing and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vern, granddaughter Kimberly Gibson and brother Russell.

Fern is survived by her children: Dennis (Rose) Olson, of St. Paul, Minn.; Darcy Gibson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren: Michele (John) Shuster, Shannon (Derrick) Orman, Todd (Pilar) Gibson, Melody Olson, Derek Olson, and Brandon Olson; 13 great-grandchildren: Cory, Logan, Mikayla, Kamarion, Alyssa, Brandi, Bailey, TJ, Austin, Tyler, Jesse, Mason, and Devon; one great-great-granddaughter: Ezrya.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Shari Mason officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and on Wednesday for one hour before the service.
