Former Minnesota Vikings greats Chuck Foreman and Carl Lee will host a youth football camp at Ellis Middle School this weekend.
The free clinic will go from 10 a.m. Saturday until noon. Participants should wear athletic clothing. Gatorade and water will be provided.
“When I was a kid, you’d read or hear about these things for kids in Minneapolis and stuff, but would never get anything down here,” said Brandon Lawhead, a friend of both players who helped organize the event.
Lawhead said the camp will teach everything from basic skills to high-level skills to what it means to be a professional athlete. Participants can simply show up early to join the program.
Foreman, a running back, was the 1973 NFL rookie of the year, is a two-time MVP and played in three Super Bowls with the Vikings. He was inducted into the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor and is a member of the 50 Greatest Vikings.
Lee, also a member of the 50 Greatest Vikings, was a defensive back drafted in 1983 who fought to make the team and made a name for himself. He also coached at West Virginia State University.
Visitors can donate $10 to Hy-Vee’s Feed a Family program and receive an autograph.
