M. Lorraine Highet, 99, of Austin, Minn., died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home, surrounded by her loving family.

M. Lorraine Miller was born April 5, 1914, in Canton, Minn., to Frank and Geneva (Lynch) Miller. She grew up in Zumbrota, Minn., completing high school in Zumbrota before graduating from St. Lucas Hospital School of Nursing. On April 10, 1937, Lorraine and Kenneth A. Highet were married at her parents’ home. The couple moved to Austin in 1937, after they were married, and became members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Lorraine enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking in the woods, and especially her role as homemaker.

Survivors include her son, David (Della) Highet, of Kentucky; her daughter-in-law, Barb Highet, of Austin; former daughter-in-law, Ione (Vern) Speer, of Rochester, Minn.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces & other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Highet, in 2001, two sons, Kenneth D. and Duane Highet, one brother, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Todd Portinga, Associate in Ministry, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family prefers that memorials be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
