Letter: Rate increases not the answer

I would like to address Austin Utilities.

It has come to my attention that you wish to spend $20 million, give or take a few million, to build a new facility. To pay for this, you will be looking to increase utility rates for all of your cash-strapped customers. You also purchased the land in 2009. Why did you not build then? Five years later, construction costs have gone through the roof.

I suggest you do what the rest of us do: Use what you have, make do, and do not place a burden on your customers.
