Zonta: Third Annual Woman of Achievement ceremony set for March 4

A few of the women who continuously try to make Mower County better place will receive their recognition next month, and one will become Zonta Club of Austin’s next Woman of Achievement.
This year’s nominees are Diette Marx, Heather Steinkamp and Gail Dennison.
Marx is a disaster services chair with the Freeborn-Mower American Red Cross. Marx’s nominator says Marx is deserving because she is involved in many organizations in the community. She is active in the Austin High School Hall of Fame Committee, on the St. Olaf Church Council, on the Austin Parks and Recreation Board, involved in the Austin Volleyball Association, president of the Southern Minny Officials Association, and drives the van for Wee Learning Preschool.
Steinkamp is executive director of the Parenting Resource Center and director of the Seibel Center in Austin. Her nominator says Heather is strong and kind-hearted and has helped many people with issues from parenting to domestic violence over the last 19 years, and she has received the Golden Rule Award, as well.
Dennison is director of development and public relations at The Hormel Institute in Austin. Dennison has been in her role since 2006, led the “Grow Science, Grow Austin” initiative at The Institute and co-led the 2012 bonding bill effort that helped bring $13.5 million for expansion of The Institute.
The woman of Achievement Award ceremony will be from 5 to 8 p.m. March 4 at the St. Edward’s Corcoran Center. Tickets to the event are $30 and include dinner, a social hour, awards presentation and a special presentation by the Sisters of St. Francis about human trafficking.
