Joyce Karwyn Dahl Fadness, 82, formerly of Houston, Minn., died March 2, 2014, at home from complications of a blood disorder caused by failure of the bone marrow to produce platelets.
Joyce was born Feb. 28, 1932, in St. Paul, a few seconds behind her twin sister, Joan, daughters of Randolf and Nina Dahl. She grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from South High School after which she attended Luther College.
In 1954, she married David Fadness. She is survived by him and their five children, Randi Lee (Lennis) Johnson of Boston, Mass.; Karwyn Signe (Don) Gustafson of Durango, Colo.; Sarah Louise (Ernest) Tremper of Torrington, Conn.; Kristoffer Louis (Sandy) Fadness of Austin, Minn.; and Peter David (Kristine) Fadness of Winchester, Mass. Also eight grandchildren, Jaci, Liz, Zach, Sela, Ernie, Dex, Signe and Clair. Three great-grandchildren, Riley, Jameson and Clara, all of whom she loved dearly. Also two sisters and a brother, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce devoted her life to the home, raising her children in the Lutheran faith and encouraging and supporting all of their school activities. When the nest emptied, she went to work as a waitress in Houston and for nine years worked in the Leidel Apple Orchard of La Crescent, Minn. Her great passion was the game of bridge, belonging to clubs in Houston, Winona, La Crosse and Rushford.
Her family wishes to thank the Mayo Clinic Hospice Service for their loving and amazing care they gave her at the end of her life. We could not have survived this ordeal without them. A memorial service is being planned at a later date in Houston.
