MnDOT, locals gearing up for construction

Want to go to Wisconsin? Crossing the Mississippi River at Winona or Dresbach will pose problems this summer as the Minnesota Department of Transportation works to replace bridges.
Naturally, summer wouldn’t be summer this decade if Interstate 35 near Owatonna were free from road construction. The roundabout at Medford gets some attention, too.
While MnDOT’s number of projects are down in Mower County, the state will be replace the Interstate 90 bridge over the Mississippi River, and work is on the docket north in Interstate 35.
In Mower County, one large local project is still up in the air. The county plans to replace the Oakland Place Southeast bridge, which has a daily traffic of about 4,000 vehicles. However, the project is dependent on bonding dollars from the state. Without bonding funds, the project will be pushed back.
In early April, Mower is also slated to take a step toward starting road projects sometime in May. The county will take bids for work to replace eight township bridges and a bridge on County State Aid Highway 46. The county will also take bids for road replacement projects on County State Aid Highway 10, County State Aid Highway 8 and County Road 53. The county will likely put other projects out for bid later this year.

The county is set for bid letting on County Road 53, County State Aid Highway 10, County State Aid Highway 46, County State Aid Highway 8 and eight township road bridges in April. Those plans represent an estimated $4 million of work. Additional township bridges and projects could be added later.
