ST. PAUL — Legislation aimed at curbing use of high-tech surveillance by law enforcement and others is getting an airing.

The Minnesota House Public Safety and Finance Committee plan hearings Tuesday on a package of bills in the privacy realm.

Some would clear up when police units need a warrant to use electronic devices for evidence gathering. A few deal specifically with unmanned aerial devices known as drones. One drone bill applies both to the public sector and private users of drones, such as making it a felony for someone to capture images from property without permission.

The privacy legislation has cut across party lines and is expected to be among the hotter topics of the short legislative session.
