AACA taking a look at smaller, intimate events

As plans for the proposed Austin ArtWorks Center at 300 N Main St. in downtown Austin develop, the Austin Area Commission for the Arts is exploring numerous ways we can use the space and expand the arts activities in our community.
One idea has been to present smaller, more intimate music events on a regular basis. Our voyage into this venture will happen from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday when we present singer/songwriters James Bracken and Jon Stowell as the first in what will hopefully become a Music at the Bank series. Both of these musicians hail from Austin.
James has toured the country with his folk-style music and eclectic variety of cover tunes.
His solo performances feature guitar, harmonica and electric piano. Jon played the first Austin ArtWorks Festival in 2012 with the Minneapolis based electric-rock band Vinyl Wine and has also performed in Austin and nationally with the St. Paul bluegrass and honky-tonk group LOUDRAY.
The evening will include solo performances by each musician and a second set of combined material. We are asking for a suggested $5 donation at the door.
Wine and beer will also be available for a donation. Proceeds will support the ArtWorks Center.
Also, don’t miss Matchbox Children’s Theatre production of After the Rain King at the Historic Paramount Theatre.
Performances are 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Paramount box office.
