An 18-year-old Austin High School student’s online fame is still growing at a fast pace.
As of this morning, Molly Kate Kestner’s original song, “His Daughter,” had been viewed more than 730,000 times. That’s up from about 245,000 views at the same time yesterday.
Kestner’s song has captured attention across the globe since it was posted April 20.
Along with attention from CNN and the Huffington Post, former “Star Trek” star and online personality George Takei shared the video on his Facebook page.
“A friend forwarded me this clip, and there are tears in my eyes from the depth and pathos of this young woman’s song,” his post read.
More than 47,000 people had liked Takei’s post as of this morning.
Kestner is talking to several record companies over the next few weeks to get “His Daughter” recorded in a studio, and potentially sold in iTunes. She hopes the song may help her pay for college and help her realize her dream job, a motivational speaker who also uses songs to help others.
“I just want to help people with my music. I want to lift them up and make them feel better about things,” Kestner said.
