After several years in orchestra, Austin High School seniors will be recognized for their dedication.
The AHS Orchestra’s will present its Senior Recognition concert of the 2013-2014 school year at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 8. Every year in the beginning of May, the orchestra holds its last concert to showcase the seniors.
“It’s nice to be able to recognize them for working so hard all these years,” Orchestra Director Gene Schott said.
Orchestra students start playing in fifth grade, and Schott says after lasting seven years, it’s a well-deserved way to say thank you.
The concert has a total of nine pieces, and will feature music from Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Holst, Mendelssohn, Haydn and Dvorak. The concert will end with all three orchestras, 136 students, onstage performing “The Great Gate of Kiev” by Moussorgsky. It will be held in the Knowlton Auditorium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors.
