Ann Marie Sorenson, 80, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Ann Marie Mehmen was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Charles City, Iowa, to Mehme Harms Mehmen and Zwantje Afkea Wiebrand. She grew up in Rockford, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Rockford in 1952. On July 3, 1954, Ann married James Sorenson in Austin, Minn. James passed away on Jan. 1, 1972. She was employed by Donald and Kermit Watts as a cook, retiring in 1994. For many years, she was a volunteer cook at the Austin Eagles Club. Ann and James raised four children. She loved to cook, she enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her children, Steve (Brenda) Sorenson and Harold (Cathy) Sorenson, both of Austin, Barb (Jerry) Gunderson of Brownsdale, and Susan (Lee) Smock, also of Austin; six grandchildren, Bradley (Lindsay) Sorenson, Jim (Beth) Sorenson, Mandi (Brian) Ollendieck, Joe (Mariah) Gunderson, Michelle Sorenson, Lee (Sarah) Gunderson; seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, two grandchildren in infancy, and her brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Todd Portinga, Associate in Ministry, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to Alzheimer’s Research or to recipient of donor’s choice.
