Austin getting a taste of Twin Cities jazz
Published 5:43 pm Saturday, May 10, 2014
Jazz is in the air at the Historic Paramount Theatre this Friday.
The Twin Cities Jazz Festival in collaboration with Jazz Central Studios in Minneapolis is kicking off their statewide tour in Austin.
The tour will feature a six-member Jazz Central All-Stars ensemble led by Tanner Taylor (keyboards) and Mac Santiago (drums).
These world-class musicians have toured extensively in the Midwest, the U.S. and abroad, and have performed with such jazz icons as Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney and Doc Severinsen.
The All Stars will offer a free clinic to students and the general public at 4 .m., with a public performance at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the public performance are $10 and can be purchased online at austinareaarts.org, over the phone at 507-434-0934 or at the Historic Paramount Theatre Tuesday through Friday noon to 5 p.m.
This tour is supported through funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board and is promoting the annual Twin Cities Jazz Festival, held June 26-28 in and around Mears Park in downtown St. Paul.
After this performance, the Austin Area Commission for the Arts will be hosting the annual Spring Cleaning of the Historic Paramount Theatre at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17.
Please stop by the Paramount anytime during the morning or early afternoon to lend a hand.
In addition to manual labor, we still need financial donations for the new ArtWorks Center. With your help we are hoping to raise the final $200,000 in time for the Grand Opening.
