The Austin Greyhounds opened Marcusen Park with authority as they cruised to a 10-0 win in seven innings over Morristown Wednesday night.

The Hounds’ pitchers dominated the game as the trio of Weston Hansen, Grant Oldenburg and Zach Schara struck out 16 of the 21 hitters they faced. Morristown had just four base runners on the night.

“We threw a lot of strikes. Hopefully it carries into every game for the whole season,” Hounds manager John Frein said. “We had good support today with a lot of guys. We hope to have a successful season that goes into the postseason.”

Austin (2-1 overall) came out swinging as Matt Cano drove in two runs with a double and Nels Nelson doubled in another run in a four-run first inning. The Hounds tacked on five more runs in the third when Jordan Hart tripled in a run and Andy Swank beat out an infield hit for an RBI.

The Hounds had a couple of new players on their roster, but one of them is not so new. Tate Cummins is back with the Greyhounds after playing with the Owatonna Aces. The Hounds were able to bring him back with the Heritage rule, which allows hometown players to come back to their hometown team after losing their residency.

“It was fun to have Tate in the dugout,” Frein said. “I played with him years back and it was cool to have him back. I think he enjoyed being around some of us old dinosaurs.”
