Blue Devil baseball team moves closer to conference title

The Riverland Community College baseball team closed to within one game of the MCAC Southern Division title as it swept St. Cloud Tech by scores of 1-0 in eight innings and 3-2 in the Riverland baseball complex Monday.
Adam Sellner, a sophomore from Sleepy Eye, pitched an eight-inning shutout in game one to get the win and he pitched out of a jam where St. Cloud had runners on first and third with one out to get the save in game two.
RCC (22-13 overall, 9-3 MCAC South) must now win just one of two games at Anoka-Ramsey Tuesday at 1 p.m. to win its first conference title since 2011. If the Blue Devils win, they will have won three of the last five MCAC titles.
On Saturday, the Blue Devils swept Rochester Community and Technical College by scores of 11-1 in five innings and 5-4 in Dick Seltz Field.
The Blue Devils took the lead in the nightcap when Zach Nelson scored on an error in the eighth inning.
Sellner and Kenny Perez each had two home runs in the doubleheader against RCTC.
RCC will host a 3-game tournament play-in series this Friday and Saturday.
