The Hayfield baseball team swept La Crescent (13-7 overall) by scores of 13-3 in six innings and 3-2 in Hayfield Friday.

Carter Pesch picked up the win for the Vikings (10-6 overall) in the nightcap in his first varsity start on the mound. The Vikings threw the tying run out at the plate for the second out of the seventh inning and Pesch struck out the Lancers’ final hitter to get the win.

“He has pitched real well in relief lately so we figured it was time to get him a start,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said. “He produced and threw a gem of a game.”

The Vikings had a strong offensive outing in the first game as JB Stackhouse, who went 5-for-9 with a homer on and a double on the day, knocked in five runs.

“La Crescent is one of the best teams in our conference,” Krekling said. “In the first game we hit the ball all over the place and every one hit well.”
