James D. Baumgartner, 24, of Austin, died unexpectedly Monday, May 5, 2014, at his home. He was born Sept. 2, 1989, in Austin, Minn., to Jim and Rachelle (Lewis) Baumgartner. James grew up in Austin and attended Austin Public Schools. He worked as a landscaper for Stivers Nursery. In his free time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, skateboarding, and disc golf. He was a good person and loved the outdoors. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his parents Rachelle (David) Root and Jim (Sheila) Baumgartner, all of Austin; his maternal grandmother Barbara Lewis of Austin; his paternal grandfather David Baumgartner of Brownsdale; one sister, Laci Baumgartner, and his niece Lexi, both of Austin; his step-sister Teri Jo Root of Harmony, Minn., step-brother Daniel Root of Preston, and step-brother Christopher O’Neill of Austin. James was preceded in death by his grandfather Ross G. Lewis and his grandmother Audrey Baumgartner.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham, 29972 570th Avenue, with Rev. Jesse Krusemark officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
