LeRoy H. ‘Roy’ Erickson, 95, of Austin, Minn., died Monday, May 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin. He was born May 19, 1918, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Carl P. and Ida Marie (Anderson) Erickson. A member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the American Legion, Roy made his living as a self-employed carpenter in the Austin area. He was married to Mildred (Peterson)
Erickson. Roy served his country in the United States Navy from June 1945 until April 1946. Mildred passed away in 1994. Roy’s special pastimes were playing trumpet in the Roy Harlan Band, and teaching his grandchildren to fish.
Survivors include one grandson, Michael Heinicke of Austin, and a great-grandson, Derek Resler of Blooming Prairie.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mildred; his daughter Kay Bonnell; his son Gary Erickson; one grandson, Robert Heinicke; brothers; and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Father Dale Tupper officiating. No visitation will be held. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Post 1216. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
