The Lyle-Pacelli softball team picked up its first wins since 2010 when it swept Glenville-Emmons (1-6 overall) by scores of 4-3 and 21-7 in a rain shortened four inning game in Glenville Monday.
LP (2-7 overall, 1-5 SEC) picked up its first win of the season when Brooke Walter knocked in a run with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
“I challenged Brooke and she delivered,” LP head coach Jeff Yocom said.
Courtney Walter had two hits in the win and Bethany Strouf picked up the win as she struck out nine, while allowing three hits, seven walks and zero earned runs.
LP scored 13 runs in the second inning of the second game and Strouf didn’t allow a hit or an earned run in four innings. She struck out five and walked six. Courtney Walter was 4-for-4 in the nightcap, and Brooke Walter and Strouf had two hits.
“I’m very proud of our young ball club in continuing to battle. They don’t give up, they keep trying,” Yocom said.
The Athletics brought back their varsity softball team this season after going three years without a team. The squad has shown steady improvement. GE beat LP 12-2 in six innings April 25.
