The Austin softball team overcame some early miscues as it picked up its first conference win of the season as it beat Faribault 10-5 in Todd Park Friday.

Austin (4-9 overall, 1-9 Big Nine) trailed 5-2 after it committed a few early errors, but it bounced back with a four-run third inning. Erin Dankert drew a walk to score a run and Bailee Brooks had a two-out, two-run single.

“We just really focused and we put the errors in the past” Dankert said. “We got the positive attitude going. It’s great to win at home and it’s great to have a conference win.”

The Packers put the game away in the bottom of the fifth when Jaidyn Bastian and Sydney Murphy knocked in runs. Austin had eight players have at least one hit in the win and Murphy went 3-for-4.

“The kids did a nice job of coming back. Hats off to them. They didn’t lay down and die, they came back and got a bunch of hits,” Austin head coach Cindy Owen said. “We had a lack of focus for a little bit. We need to stay focused for a full seven innings to be successful.”
