TAYLORS FALLS — An 11-year-old boy who was rescued from the swirling currents of the St. Croix River joined other family members to watch rescue boats search for his uncle.

Twenty-one-year-old Tou Hu Vang, of Coon Rapids, apparently drowned Sunday while trying to save 11-year-old Calvin Vang. Calvin says they were fishing when he slipped off a wet rock. He says he felt terrified by the strong current. A bystander pulled Calvin to shore. Tou Hu Vang’s body remained missing Monday evening.

In a separate incident, the body of a 14-year-old was recovered from the Mississippi River early Monday in St. Paul Park. The Star Tribune of Minneapolis says friends and family identify him as Dylan Thorp, a student at Oltman Middle School, who went to the river with friends Sunday.
