Child taken to hospital, no charges were filed

A 9-year-old male was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin after he was hit by a car Wednesday afternoon near Wells Fargo Bank.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said a 21-year-old driver was traveling eastbound on First Drive Northwest when the 9-year-old sped out of the Wells Fargo parking lot on his bike in front of her. Though the driver tried to brake for the bicyclist, she was too late, according to Krueger.

Witnesses later told police there was nothing the driver could do to avoid an accident.

The 9-year-old’s condition is unknown. Krueger said no charges were filed against the driver.
