Ethel Cleone (Bergene) Nerison, 78, died on June 11, 2014, at Adams Healthcare Center in Adams, Minn.

Ethel was born in Austin, Minn., on Aug. 2, 1935, to Edwin N. and Clara Irene Bergene. She grew up on the family farm in Adams, married Stanley Barrows in 1954 and raised a family of four children. In 1963, Stanley died of cancer at the age of 29. Ethel remarried in 1966 to Larry Nerison and the family added one more son, Loren, to the family. Ethel worked at Farmers State Bank, Mower County Treasurer’s Office, and as manager of Cedar River Country Club. She was a lifetime member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams, Minn. She enjoyed flower gardening, quilting, and playing bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed time at the family cabin in Madison Lake, Minn., especially watching grandchildren and great-grandchildren fish, boat and play in the water.

Ethel was preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley Eugene Barrows; and her parents, Clara and Edwin Bergene.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Larry Nerison; her brothers, Harlan Bergene of Austin, Minn., and Meritt Bergene (Maurette) of Owatonna, Minn.; daughters, Janet Barrows Stotts (Gene) of Wasilla, Alaska, Cindy Barrows Chapek (Russ W.) of Lake Crystal, Minn., sons, Gene Barrows of Elko, Minn., Dale Barrows of Adams, Minn., and Loren Nerison of Adams, Minn.; grandchildren, Corey Chapek (Stephanie) of Eden Prairie, Minn., Chrystal Lindeman (Peter) of Mankato, Minn., Candice Bartel (Lucas) of Mountain Lake, Minn., Cassidy Chapek of Lake Crystal, Minn., and Taylor Osmundson, Jacqie, Cole, and Sophia Nerison of Austin, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Chase, Porter, Edison, Tyler, Alexander, Cambrie and Tenley; uncle Garfield Kittelson of Mt. Horeb, Wis.; niece, Dawn McMurray of Loveland, Colo.; many cousins; in-laws; and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeremy Johnson officiating.  Interment will be at Little Cedar Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home on Sunday, June 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. and at the church for one hour before the service on Monday.
