ALBERT LEA — A Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputy was placed on paid administrative leave on Friday — the same day he filed for office of sheriff.

County Administrator John Kluever said the Sheriff’s Office took a report of misconduct from a resident about deputy Dale Glazier on Friday, and later that afternoon, Glazier was placed on paid leave. The Rochester Police Department is investigating.

Kluever said the investigation should only take a few days, and he anticipated having more information to release by the end of the week.

“At this point, it would be my understanding that this has no connection to the sheriff’s race,” Kluever said.

Glazier, 50, is running against incumbent Sheriff Bob Kindler and fellow deputy Kurt Freitag.

He has worked for the Sheriff’s Office since 2003 and announced his intent to run for the seat in the middle of May.

Glazier said in a previous interview he campaigned for Kindler four years ago. He claimed many of the promises Kindler made when he was elected have not come to fruition and said he thinks there is decreased morale in the department and diminished relationships with other agencies.

Kindler, after filing, said he was proud of the accomplishments in the Sheriff’s Office during the last 3 1/2 years.

He said a reorganization of the department, combined with the elimination of needless overtime, contributed to saving the county taxpayers over $198,000 in just the first year alone.

When contacted Tuesday, Glazier said he will move forward with his campaign.

“I’m still going forward,” he said. “It’s just making me more determined.”

He said county officials have refused to tell him what he is accused of, other than to label the allegation as “misconduct.”

He said he filed for office on Friday, and less than two hours later, he found out he was going to be on leave.

“Everybody has a right to know what they’re accused of and who their accuser is,” Glazier said.
